The short version
Fold keeps everything about your wardrobe on your device. There is no account to create, nothing is uploaded to our servers, and we never sell your data. We have no way to see your clothes, your looks, or your plans.
What stays on your device
Everything you add to Fold lives only on your iPhone:
- Photos you take of your clothes and the cut-outs Fold makes from them
- Items, looks, and outfit plans you create
- Notes, costs, and wear counts you record
- App settings and preferences
If you have iCloud Backup turned on, this data may be included in your own encrypted Apple backup, under your control. We never receive it.
No network for your wardrobe
Fold removes the background from your garment photos using a model that runs entirely on your device. Your images are never sent to us or to any third party for processing.
If you use weather-based suggestions, Fold asks Apple's Weather service for the forecast at your location through your device. That request is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy terms; we do not receive your location or build any profile from it.
Face and biometric data
Fold does not collect, store, share, or retain face data of any kind.
Fold has no face detection, no face recognition, and no face tracking. It never creates a faceprint, face map, face geometry, face template, or any other biometric identifier, and it cannot identify or authenticate anyone.
To separate a garment from its surroundings, Fold runs an image-segmentation model entirely on your device. That model labels each pixel of a photo as one of a fixed set of regions — for example upper-clothes, pants, dress, shoes, bag, or background. Some of those labels describe parts of a person, including a face region. Fold uses these labels for one purpose only: to exclude everything that is not a garment from the cut-out. The face region, along with hair, skin, and limbs, is discarded and never becomes part of any image Fold saves.
The labels exist only in your device's memory for the fraction of a second it takes to produce the cut-out, and are then discarded. Nothing derived from a face is ever written to storage, included in a backup, shown in the app, or used for any other purpose.
Retention period: none. No face data is retained, because none is ever collected or created.
Third parties: none. All processing happens on your iPhone. No image, and nothing derived from an image, is transmitted to us, to any server, or to any third party. Fold contains no analytics, advertising, or third-party SDKs that could receive such data.
The photos you choose remain yours, in your own photo library, under Apple's control — Fold only reads the ones you select.
No tracking, no ads, no profiling
Fold contains no advertising, no analytics SDKs, and no third-party trackers. We do not profile you and there is no feed. Suggestions are produced locally from your own wardrobe and the weather.
Children
Fold is a general-audience app and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because it collects nothing.
